Stamped ball compression and one frustrating day

Posted on Posted by JP on 17th Aug 2015

Seems like everyday around here for a while now has been about compression.  Today was ball compression

Thought I would share with you a misunderstanding a customer had with me today over stamped ball compression vs. product ordered, specifically the 44/575 Evil Max ball.

This customer ordered (1) dz 44/575 Evil Max balls.  When he received his order, the box was stamped EVIL-MAX 12" 44 525 minimum compression and so were the balls inside it.  He called me up and said he received the wrong balls.  After some commentary and a picture of the actual product received, what he received was correct.....the 44/575 Evil Max as ordered.  He insisted they we not what he ordered and demanded I provide him the correct balls.  I explained to him per the manufacturer they are stamped minimum 525 compression which is fully disclosed on my site.  I also provided him a link to the manufacturers site that says the same exact thing.  Still he insisted I am defrauding and misrepresenting a product and forcing something upon him he did not order.  Did I mention I told him he is ok to mail them back for a refund?  Of course that would be to easy.....he insisted no refund and DEMANDED I ship him out the balls he ordered.  I cannot make this stuff up.........

After the call, I personally called the manufacturer directly and asked why they stamp the balls 525 if the product name states 575.  I honestly did not know.

Per the manufacturer, balls are either stamped with a MIN or MAX compression.  The reason behind this is because of inconsistencies in the cover and the manufacturing process.  So in essence every ball is either rated at a minimum compression or maximum, but not "actual" as there is slight variation in each ball.  If you think about it, it makes sense as every ball is constructed uniquely of some organic / synthetic material.  Evil decided to stamp this ball MINIMUM 525 compression as it is at least this, but in all actuality it could be a 575 ball, could be a 560 ball, could be a 550 ball, but at minimum it is a 525 ball.  Use the ASA 44/375 ball as an example.  Stamped 375 MAX compression.  Is every ball 375, probably not, but at least you know it is not above 375 which is what the rules are per ASA.  Take bats for example.  New stamp ASA and USSSA bats are rated at 1.20 BPF from factory.  This means they will never get as hot as 1.20 BPF in stock form.  Makes sense to me !!!

So I have now put everything in writing, again, including this new info, clarified again I will refund him should he mail back the balls if he is not satisfied and sent it off to his email and text.  And his response was.....you got it, give me the balls I ordered.  I will end this story here...........

This has now taken up half my day and been more frustrating than anything.  The point I am trying to make is there is not one bit of misrepresentation or deception on my behalf or the manufacturers, it is simply a misunderstanding on the buyers.  No matter the amount of evidence I provided, there was simply no changing this persons mind.

If you compare this website to any other bat shaving site, this website is by far more detailed than any other out there for this very reason.  One of our main business principles is to let you know what you are getting, with as much info as we can reasonably provide upfront, to minimize calls or circumstances like this.  As we have been scammed before by a similar company, we take it upon ourselves to be fully transparent in our research, product representations and descriptions.  We will go above and beyond to clarify any misunderstanding as we do appreciate each sale rather it be $70 balls or a $300 bat.  To us it is indifferent.  I am 36 years old and know you cannot make everyone happy, but I do know the variables I can control will be as accurate as I can make them.  I hope, when you review the detail we put into this website, that radiates loud and clear.
